Meaning: The widely cited daily step goal for maintaining health.
The 10,000 steps goal became ubiquitous with fitness trackers (Fitbit, Apple Watch). Originally from a 1960s Japanese marketing campaign, not science. Research suggests 7,000–8,000 steps provides most health benefits. Still, 'hitting your steps' is a daily fitness ritual.
